Family and Children Photography in Copenhagen:
What to Expect and How to Prepare
Booking a family or children’s photoshoot is one of the best decisions you can make – but it can also feel a little overwhelming.
What should everyone wear? What if the kids don’t cooperate? Where should we shoot?
As a family and children photographer in Copenhagen, I hear these questions all the time. Here’s everything you need to know.
What makes a great family photo?
Spoiler: it’s not matching outfits or everyone smiling at the camera at the same time.

The best family photos happen in between – when your toddler runs ahead, when your partner picks up your child and spins them around, when someone laughs at the wrong moment. My job is to be there for all of it.
I work in a documentary, lifestyle style. That means I guide the session gently but never force poses. We walk, we play, we chat – and I photograph what’s real.
Where do we shoot?
Copenhagen is full of beautiful locations for family sessions.

Some of my favorites:
Frederiksberg Have – open green space, perfect for running kids and golden hour light. Assistens Kirkegård – surprisingly lush and peaceful, especially in spring and summer. The harbourfront near Ofelia Plads – great for that classic Copenhagen feel.
Your own neighborhood – sometimes the most meaningful sessions happen where your family actually lives.
What about children who don’t like cameras?

Most kids are shy at first. That’s completely normal. I always build in time at the start of the session just to get comfortable – we play, I let them lead. By the time we’re 15 minutes in, they’ve usually forgotten I’m there. And if a child is having a hard day? We pause, we breathe, we try something else. The goal is real moments, not perfect ones.
How do I prepare?

A few things that make a real difference: schedule the session around your children’s best time of day (not nap time!), dress in colors that complement each other without being too matchy, and eat a snack beforehand. Happy, fed children make for beautiful photos.
